Things arc really buzzing around the chamber office this week getting ready for the big weekend of the Christmas-By-thc-Sca Festival. Last week we kickcd-off the Christmas-By-thc-Sca Festival with "Merchant Open House Weekend". Ten area businesses participated by greeting shoppers with great sales and refreshments. The silent auction will benefit the Christmas-By-the-Sea Festival and the merchants have donated some wonderful items for the sale. Bids will be awarded at noon by auction chairman Anne Watson. The Fraternal Order of Police bar becue will begin at 11 a.m. in Mid dleton Park with serving all day. The FOP also has planned entertain ment by an Elvis impersonator, a bike rodeo, child I.D. fingerprinting, and a display of department vehicles. At 3 pan. the sixth annual Christmas-By-the-Sea Festival pa rade will step-off in Yaupon Beach and travel down Yaupon and Oak Island drives to Middleton Park. A reviewing stand will be set up in front of Red Carpet-Dorothy Essey and Associates Realty and Woody Woodward, director of the Long Beach Parks and Recreation Depart ment, will narrate the parade. By the entries received so far this parade looks like it’s going to be a good one. At 6:45 p.m. the festival moves to Waterfront Park in Southport for the seventh annual Holiday Flotilla and entertainment. Entertainment will be hosted by the crew of WCCA 106.3 radio, prior to the arrival of the flo tilla at 7 p.m. Other events this weekend include the Southport Woman’s Club Holiday House on Saturday from 1 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Southport Community Building, and the Oak Island Beauti fication Club’s Oak Island Tour of Homes. The campaign is designed to reward residents who patronize local businesses all year long and entice those who may tend to do their holiday shopping elsewhere. Each week in December gifts donated by local merchants will be awarded in random drawings. Hundreds of dol lars worth of prizes including mer chandise, services and gift certifi cates will be given away. To participate, shoppers must complete entry forms to be eligible for that week’s prizes. Entries are discarded after each drawing. Win ners are randomly selected from all entries received at weekly drawings. Drawings are scheduled for Decem ber 7, 14 and 21 at the chamber of commerce office.
